All the time, Ray-Ban, Harley-Davidson and ZIPPO are considered as
symbols of American culture. It is also said that Ray-Ban reaches every
corner of the world with American army as well as Coca-Cola and Jeep
because originally Bay-Ban was invented for the United States Army
Air
Corps.Ray-Ban is a sunglass brand which was founded in 1937 by Bausch & Lomb. Since it is founded, Ray-Ban is always the best-selling sunglass brand in history. It is known for high quality and elegant design in the past 80 years.
Then how Ray-Ban Aviator was invented?
We should trace the story back to 1923. A lieutenant named John MacCready complained that his eyes badly suffered from strong rays of the sun after his balloon flying journey. From that experience, he thought that pilots may also need sunglasses which can absorb harmful rays when they fly a plane in the air. And then he visited Bausch & Lomb and asked them to generate a protective eyewear against sun rays.
The film accepted that challenge and developed the prototype called Anti-Glare with gold-plated metal and green lenses made of mineral glass to protect from infrared and ultraviolet rays. At the same time, to everyone’s surprise, such design clears the view for pilots and stands out due to their oblique teardrop shape which made them look so cool. Furthermore, most durable frame material was also used in this design. When pilots wore these sunglasses, they were fond of them at once. That’s why it was introduced to American Army, which made it known today as Aviator sunglasses.
In 1937, the firm put the sunglasses into mass production, launched them at the market and branded it as “Ray-Ban” which reflects the sense of functions of sunglasses. From that time on, Ray-Ban becomes another name of sunglasses in history.
In Ray-Ban Aviator development, there is a person we have to mention. He made the Ray-Ban Aviator well-known around the world. He wore Aviator when he landed on the beach in the Philippines. And photographers took the pictures of him wearing them. He is General Douglas MacArthur.
